2. Connect an Existing Domain (Update Nameservers)

Already own a domain at another registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains/Squarespace, Hostinger, etc.)? Simply point your registrar's nameservers to our assigned Cloudflare nameservers, and we take care of all DNS records and SSL provisioning automatically.

Step-by-Step Setup Instructions

Option A: Buying a New Domain Through Websites.ly

1. Go to your Websites.ly Domains dashboard and use the built-in domain search bar to find your desired domain name.
2. Complete the domain registration. We automatically register the domain through GoDaddy on your behalf.
3. Click Connect Cloudflare.
4. Our system automatically handles the entire technical setup behind the scenes:
   • Provisions your zone inside our Cloudflare network.
   • Updates the domain nameservers via GoDaddy API.
   • Injects proxied A and CNAME records pointing directly to your Websites.ly server IP.
   • Issues and activates your free Cloudflare SSL certificate.
5. Confirm your live status indicators read:
   • GoDaddy: ACTIVE

Log in to where you bought your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Dynadot, Porkbun, etc.):

• Navigate to your domain's DNS Management or Nameservers section.
• Select Custom Nameservers (or "I want to use my own nameservers").
• Replace any existing nameservers with your two assigned Cloudflare nameservers (e.g., ns1.cloudflare.com and ns2.cloudflare.com) and save changes.

2. Cloudflare DNS & SSL Provisioning: Once registered, Cloudflare assigns nameservers and generates the SSL edge certificate. This typically completes within 5 to 15 minutes, turning both Cloudflare and SSL statuses to ACTIVE.

For Existing Domains (Manual Nameserver Update)

When updating nameservers at an external registrar, changes must propagate across global internet service providers (ISPs). This usually takes between 15 minutes to 24 hours depending on your previous registrar's TTL settings. Cloudflare SSL activates automatically the moment nameserver verification succeeds.
